HONDA: Overview
Honda entered the power products business in order to fulfill the wishes of Soichiro Honda, the founder of the Honda company, to utilize superior engine technology to help people perform jobs at work and home, and improve the quality of life. It started with our first power product engine in 1953, and now includes tillers, portable generators, outboard engines, water pumps, lawn mowers, snow throwers, power carrier, electric 4 wheel scooter and a household compact cogeneration unit. All of these diverse products incorporate unique technology and original ideas. Cumulative production of power products has exceeded 70 million units (as of May, 2006). Power products are produced at 11 plants in 9 countries around the world, sold in 156 countries, and utilized by more than 5.5 million people annually.

Environment
Honda was one of the first companies to take an aggressive approach to protecting the global environment. In the "Honda Environment Declaration" of 1992, Honda established a policy of contributing to the retention of personal health and preservation of the global environment at a world-class level in all of its corporate activities, and reducing the environmental load throughout the life cycle of all its products (research & development, production, distribution, sales, servicing and disposal). Numerical targets were established for making the exhaust gas emissions of power products cleaner and achieving higher fuel economy, and Honda adopted aggressive measures to realize these targets. Honda has also taken an active approach to meeting noise regulations and reducing substances with an environmental impact, while being proactive in developing products that are easy to recycle. This has resulted in the ability to recycle 95% of the materials used in Honda power products, illustrating our comprehensive commitment to reducing environmental load.
Yanmar
Yanmar Co., Ltd. has long tackled environmental problems in its daily business activities on the basis of the company’s corporate
philosophy of seeking beautiful harmony between plentiful human lifestyles and the needs of the global environment.
Global warming, dwindling natural resources, waste and other problems all continue to pose serious threats to the global
environment and society demands that countermeasures be taken.

Yanmar Co., Ltd. made its Environmental Charter in 1995, and acquired ISO14001 environmental certification for all of its
production plants in 1998, and we have been promoting environmental preservation activities. In 2002, with the reinforcement of management structures across the Yanmar group, the Environmental Charter was revised as the charter of the whole group, with the aim of facilitating environmental management group-wide.

In January 2005, we established a new corporate philosophy based on offering products and services for the sustainable society as our mission for the strengthening of recycling activities.

We shall continue to seek always to supply unrivaled products and services for the sustainable society that can point the way for
the most effective uses of energy.

Work is progressing on the group’s environmental conservation activities for our corporate centenary in 2012. The vision for that shall be incorporated in the Yanmar group’s mid-term environmental plan that begins in the 2006 fiscal year.
